Seasons opened on the beach at Pongwe in 2009, built in coral stone and timber by local fundis and set back from the sand in gardens that grew up around it.
It had a shamba-chic character of its own on the east coast, and a following to match, from guests who returned season after season to the crowds at the Sunday sessions, art shows and charity days by the pool.
We are keeping as much of the original Seasons as the new buildings allow. Pathways and walls are preserved wherever they can be, the new lodge and residences are set around the mature landscape we have nurtured since the beginning, and the original reception block, through careful refurbishment rather than demolition, becomes a private villa with its own pool and direct access to the beach.
The same guardians of the Seasons spirit are behind the rebuild, now with Ubunifu as developer.
Pongwe

Seasons has been part of the Pongwe community for as long as it has operated here, and long before the new developments arrived on the east coast.
We know where the morning light falls on this beach, which way the wind comes in each season and where the shade sits through the afternoon, and the new buildings are planned around all of it.
The families of Pongwe have built, staffed and supported the lodge since the day it opened, and they are as much a part of Seasons as the coral walls.
As the east coast fills with new names, we go on looking after the people we have grown with here.

Among the lodges on Zanzibar's east coast, Seasons Lodge sits on Pongwe beach, with seven Lodge Villas and the Family Villa along the cliff edge.
The new lodge villas are set into the walls, paths and gardens kept from the original Seasons, and built in the coral stone and timber of the first designs.
Seasons keeps its name, its character and its team, and takes on the service and facilities of a resort.
Each villa is private, with butler service, and the beach club, spa and restaurant are there whenever guests want them.
The largest villa has six bedrooms, its own pool and its own way onto the beach.

Seasons Residences are now available to buy, with the Founders release of 17 residences priced at base rates.
The residences are part of the new Seasons, on the same site as the lodge and run by the same team. While you are away, that team lets your residence, looks after it through the year and reports to you on how it performs. When you visit, the beach club, spa and restaurant are open to you as they are to any lodge guest.
There are forty-seven residences, from studios to penthouses, low-rise among the palms, each held in your name on 99-year leasehold title, with 28 nights a year kept for you.
Studios start at $118,000, with handover in Q4 2028.
